Before the pavilion: a hunting lodge deep in the woods

Long before becoming one of the most unique venues in the Île-de-France region, La Roche Couloir was nothing more than a quiet clearing in the Chevreuse forest. From the 1950s to the mid-1960s, the site served as a hunting lodge, nestled among oaks, beeches, and ferns. No castle, no grand manor, just the forest, raw nature, and that feeling of being already very far from the city.

It is this spirit of a simple, intimate refuge that would captivate its future owner.

Jean-Jacques Goupil, an industrialist with a passion for design

In 1967, industrialist Jean-Jacques Goupil, founder of the Fluocaril brand, decided to build a hunting lodge there. A lover of design and nature, he did not want a classic forest house. He was looking for a singular place that reflected his personality: a personal retreat, but also a home where he could host his friends and guests, away from prying eyes.

To design this project, he turned to a team then in full creative swing: the Atelier d'Architecture d'Avoriaz.

The Atelier d'Architecture d'Avoriaz: the mountains in the heart of the Chevreuse valley

In the late 1960s, the Atelier d'Architecture d'Avoriaz (AAA), which included architect Jean-Marc Roques, was inventing a ski resort like no other in Haute-Savoie. Their credo: to blend architecture into the landscape by working with rock, wood, and slopes, rather than imposing it upon nature.

At the turn of the 1970s, the architects transposed this philosophy into the heart of the Chevreuse forest. The Roche Couloir pavilion was conceived as a miniature mountain:

• a curved wooden roof, clad in chestnut shingles, which follows the silhouette of the trees;
• a sculptural fireplace, the true heart of the building, whose flue pierces the roof and connects the interior to the exterior;
• a spiral staircase winding around the flue;
• supple lines and rounded shapes, right down to the sofa with its organic curves that forms the bar.

Raw wood, stone, and light: the materials are in constant dialogue with the forest landscape. More than fifty years later, this bold architecture, at once warm and elegant, remains the estate's signature.

A family home where hospitality was an art

In the mid-1970s, the pavilion became a family retreat. But Jean-Jacques Goupil also hosted figures from the worlds of art, industry, and medicine, reflecting his extensive network. Hosting, sharing, celebrating: a sense of festivity and conviviality has been part of the venue's DNA from day one.

Poster artist Bernard Villemot, famous for his Orangina, Perrier, and Bally posters, gave the venue a graphic identity blending modernity and elegance, with a target-shaped logo—a nod to its origins as a hunting lodge. He would later create several posters for La Roche Couloir.

From the 1980s until the end of the 2010s, La Roche Couloir remained a private residence, serving as both a second home and a hunting lodge. 2019: La Roche Couloir joins Domaines & évènements

In 2019, the estate was acquired by Domaines & évènements. Upgrades to meet safety standards allowed the pavilion to welcome the public, and the Domaine de la Roche Couloir officially opened its doors in September 2019, initially for countryside seminars. On September 29, 2020, an inaugural evening brought together 120 guests in the heart of the forest, marking a new milestone: the estate opened its doors to weddings and Corporate events.

A story that continues to unfold

Since then, the estate has grown without ever betraying its original spirit:

• 2021-2022: a geodesic dome with wooden arches was installed to accommodate more guests, while respecting the pavilion's aesthetic;
• 2023-2024: new furniture, wood stove, relandscaped lawn, creation of ceremony areas, and a new visual identity;
• 2025: major renovations to modernize the pavilion while preserving its architectural and natural identity.

Today, the Pavilion (140 m², up to 120 people for cocktails and 50 for dinner), the Dome (175 m², 120 people seated), the Cabin Room, and the outdoor spaces on the edge of the forest make up an intimate estate, perfect for small groups. To keep the celebration going, you can sleep in the bridal cabin, in unique gypsy caravans, or, in the summer, in Sahara tents.

With the expansion of our vision and the integration of new locations within Domaines & événements, we have evolved our visual identity. Our objective was twofold:

• Unify the logos of the various fields to reflect a common belonging.
• Preserve the soul and uniqueness of each place.

This evolution marks an important step in our desire to establish a clear graphic line between Domaines & événements and each of its areas. The new logos: graphic harmony.

Domain logos

• The standardized “Domain” mention: presented in typed characters, it evokes the writing of “Domaines” in the main logo.
• A handwriting for each proper name: in order to maintain the uniqueness of each domain.
• Appropriate colors: each domain has specific declinations, chosen to reflect its identity.
• New fonts: identical for all areas, they reinforce visual coherence.
• The monogram with the design of the poplars represents the characteristic entrance to the estate.

The “D de la RC” monogram: an iconic emblem

To reveal the full potential of the place as a forest wedding area, a wedding inspired shooting was designed by Domaines & événements, in collaboration with the photographer Pascal Vo. The magic of the place came to life thanks to Shirley and Anthony, the models of the day, who were not playing a role, because they are really in a relationship in real life!

And that's not all: it was Shirley's very first day on the Domaines & événements team, as a marketing collaborator. It's hard to dream of a more beautiful introduction than a marriage (fictional... for now!) in a magical place, surrounded by her new colleagues and caring guests. One thing is certain: she will never forget that first day.
